Photo Site: Stone House Flats on the AuSable River East Branch, Route 9N and Stonehouse Road, midway between the villages of Jay and Upper Jay. The flats, a flood plain in miniature, are a unique formation along approx. 5 miles of the river at this point. The flats flood in the spring thaw, large ice pancakes sometimes landing right at the highway. A good place for vegetable gardens years ago--good river swimming access today. The cottonwood is an uncommon variety this far North. The elm are gone.
