Dear Guest:
My backcountry cabins cost more than most area motels and roadside cabins. And they offer less in the way of amenities. No TV, phones or microwaves, and no modern plumbing. But they do offer something you can't get anywhere else.
Quiet and seclusion in a natural place. And the cabins themselves are comfortable and pretty, with full kitchens, fireplaces, authentic Adirondack furnishings, and views. Real value.

Please explain the new prices. It's disappointing Martin, because this is exactly the reason we haven't been back to Four Peaks. We enjoyed our stay there a few years ago and hoped for a similar experience. In addition we have told friends and family about you place and was eager to get them up there for a visit. We first stayed at your cabin because we enjoy the rustic feel and it was less expensive then staying in a Hotel. But at $600 it exceeds most hotel bills. If you have a different price you can quote us we'd be interested. Thank You, Matt and Jenn Subject: Re: Your Adirondack Vacation/Getaway on a private riverview farm Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 21:17:38 -0400 From: MartinAndLouise Reply-To: VisitUs@4peaks.com Organization: Fourpeaks--Adirondack Backcountry Camps To: "Adc"@cs.com Matt-- We make no bones about the fact that we charge for additional guests. I'm sorry you're disappointed and for exactly the same reason you were disappointed the last time you re-contacted us. Our place is not cheaper than an average hotel stay. But the high degree of privacy (even the rare sense of seclusion at the camps), our trash-free open spaces, the quality of the furnishings and the activity opportunities on our trails and at our beauty spots provide good value compared to just a room and TV. As for the pricing, please note that "Prices [are] based on Single or Double occupancy. Higher prices for additional guests and shared accommodations." (The note in quotes appears in every place on our website where prices are shown.) We make no bones about the fact that we charge for additional couples, kids and single guests--$50-$150 per person or couple, depending on the length of stay. It's for extra wear and tear as compared to occupancy by just one or two persons. Thanks for your frank response. We're not unwilling to provide extra value where we can--just not on a holiday weekend. Since you've visited in the past you can take advantage of the reduced rates we offer for returning guests-- Free Upgrades, Mid-week Specials and All-Season Discounts. There are already Frequent Flyer points in your account. Find out how many and how much money you can save at our Frequent Flyer page http://4peaks.com/fgift.htm Hope to see you again. Best wishes, Martin The Sequel. Next weekend Matt and Jenn stayed at New Barn all by themselves. Here's how it happened-- They called from the road Thursday PM and said they were interested in staying with us for the weekend. What kind of deal could they get? As they were planning a late arrival, New Barn was the only available choice. But they had points on their Frequent Flyer card, so we offered them a free Accommodation Upgrade for the last-minute booking--$350 for 3 days--same price as New Camp. Matt appears not to enjoy a Vacation/Getaway unless it's a bargain. He offered $300. Always happy to accommodate a Frequent Flyer and not wanting to spoil their fun, we accepted. They had a nice weekend hiking some really big mountains we never heard of. It appears their whole family are confirmed ADK-46'ers. They commented very favorably on the attractive decor at New Barn and said it was very comfortable. We gave them 3 free jars of our homemade jam. Even though the area looks beautiful, the price is simply too high for a cabin without a proper bathroom, running water, electricity, etc. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Brian Subject: The price is simply too high for a cabin without a proper bathroom, running water, electricity, etc. Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2008 15:25:27 -0400 From: "Martin (Your Adirondack Guide)" To: Brian ****man@hotmail.com Brian-- Thanks for your email. "The area looks beautiful." That's the point, really. Natural beauty. No noise, busy streets or buildings all around. Bird calls, rustling leaves. Mountains, old fields. Totally secluded, no people. A vacation "away from it all." I'm sorry you can't find the price for this in your pocketbook today. Please keep Fourpeaks in mind for better times. If you do, I think you'd find my places pretty and comfortable, with full kitchens, fireplaces, antique furnishings, oriental rugs-- an authentic "Adirondacks." No plastic. And the view! Quite different from a commercial cabin, maybe ten feet away from the next one. Best wishes, Martin P.S. Thoreau House, as it happens, unlike my other 6 places DOES HAVE running water and electricity. And the toilet is functional and clean, although not "proper," as you say. Old-fashioned I call it. The style that's been in use here on this property for hundreds of years. But then Fourpeaks is not about the "amenities." It's the nature experience. P.P.S. Make me an offer for what you think it's worth. I offer student (and senior) discounts! Subject: Re: TO CONFIRM YOUR RESERVATION, please complete the response . . . Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2008 09:19:39 -0400 From: "Daren **********" daren.*****@gmail.com To: "Martin (Your Adirondack Guide)" I will confirm later today after lunch , i got to run out for a bit this morning, but i was wondering - not that it matters to much , but every bit helps , if that was the 10 percent discount or if the 10 percent is already included whether it is cash or charge, because i thought it might be 567 for 3 nights with the 10 percent plus room tax 210 x 3 = $630 - 63 discount= $567 plus room tax, but either way i am looking forward to coming up and enjoying some nature , will fill out the form shortly thanks again DT Subject: i thought it might be 567 for 3 nights with the 10 percent plus room tax 210 x 3 = $630 - 63 discount= $567 plus room tax, Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2008 21:58:11 -0400 From: "Martin (Your Adirondack Guide)" To: "Daren **********" daren.*****@gmail.com Daren-- You're right! I've changed your rent to $567 plus tax. You will see this reflected in the statement when you get here. How it happened. I recently changed my listed prices from a 3-day/week statement to daily rates as a range which is most common in the accommodations industry. But the new statement left out "For single or double occupancy." I charge for extra persons, kids over 18 yrs and dogs. (But you didn't know that so to be fair I'm charging you the rate you expected to pay.) Here are the numbers. For The Cabin the price used to be shown as $625/3 days, $1250/week. I changed this to $175-210/day. I'm beginning to like this better and it suggests cheaper prices might be offered off season (like November and April). This is aside from the 10-25% Discounts for Returning Guests (Fourpeaks Frequent Flyers) which is how you got the 10% off as I explained earlier. See http://4peaks.com/fgift.htm I'm also a softie for students, seniors and single Moms if they tell me they have limited resources for nature getaways. Thanks for calling the rent disparity to my attention. I fixed the pricing statements on the webpage. I'm a stickler for details. Especially with money. Best wishes, Martin . Are you in this picture?
